This story is different from most of Lovecraft's other works in that it tells the story not of a person, but of a place. "The Street" traces the chronology of a single thoroughfare from it's infancy in colonial America up to Lovecraft's present day.

That might sound boring at first, but Lovecraft does a fine job of making you see the street through the eyes of the people who live on it. It's actually rather engaging.
