Yo. I'm Drake

I have a lot of interests.

I do a lot of things.

Most of them aren't particularly marketable.

I am, unfortunately, a person, not a brand.

This site is a bad idea; primarily because it takes everything I do and puts it all in one place. The general rule of thumb (or at least, the rule of thumb promoted by every marketing guru, branding expert, and snake-oil salesman I've come across on the internet) is to split up your enterprises when they cover such diverse interests as mine. I make music; I read books; I write poetry; I make art; I perform audiobooks; and I make videos.

Whatever, oh whatever shall I do?!

I could have a plethora of websites, one for each interest, and direct those who might wish to follow my ventures in a particular area towards the site that chronicles those ventures.

Unfortunately, the expenses for this micro-net are beyond the means of my meagre wallet.

I could focus in on ONE particular interest, funneling my energies into that venture until it grows to support the others.

Unfortunately, I don't have the discipline for that.

So here's what I'm doing instead.

I have a blog. On this site.

There are four categories for posts, each of which captures one area of interest:

  1. The Book Blabberer

    • Book Reviews! Audiobooks! Thoughts on writing! Anything that has to do with the written word, both those I read and those I write, will be found here. I try to read a little bit of everything (shocker, I know), but tend to focus on the more speculative side of things (sci-fi, fantasy, horror, magical realism, etc.). I also tend to write in those genres, with an occasional foray into literary fiction.

  2. Drake Mc. Music

    • This is where you'll find my musical endeavors. I write contemporary Christian worship music (or I try to, anyway). My goal in writing worship songs is to create a space where people can contemplate the nature of God, that they might thereby see the glory of God, and therefore respond in worship of God. I also occasionally just catch a feeling and scream it into the ether; and while I think those songs might be useful for personal worship, I'm not sure how useful they would be for congregational worship. Nonetheless, you'll find them here.

  3. Drake Makes Art

    • I don't actually think I'm all that great of an artist, but sometimes I just feel like I NEED to express myself visually. So I throw some paint on canvas, or collage, or just have some fun. If you're interested in art, maybe you'll like what you see here.

  4. Live Between

    • This is where you'll find my thoughts on a number of other topics. Mostly religion and queer culture, since that's the intersection I've set up shop in. The term I prefer to use for my sexuality is complicated, but I think most people would probably just think of it as bisexual. Historically, the Christian church hasn't done all that great in reaching out to the queer community, but I'm here, I'm queer, and I believe in Jesus. I have thoughts about it. You'll find them here. In the in-between. Where I live. I live between. Get it?

I have separate TikTok accounts for The Book Blabberer and Drake Mc. Music (because TikTok is free); and I have a YouTube account for DrakeMakesArt (because YouTube is free). Live Between exists only on this site.

Again, I understand that this site is a bad idea. What if someone who's interested in art content isn't interested in music content? What if someone interested in religion doesn't like horror novels?

Well, I have faith that they can handle themselves on this site.

I have faith in you.

I've done my best to make this site as accessible and navigable as possible within the confines of my limited web design knowledge. I hope you enjoy what you find here.
