I've decided I want to record audiobooks. I get told all the time that I have the voice for it, so I figure I oughta give it a shot. To practice, I've decided to record the fiction catalog of one of my favorite authors: H. P. Lovecraft.

Lovecraft's prose is rather beautiful, IMO, but sometimes his themes and subject matter are sometimes... problematic. He was a white man writing in the early 20th century, before the civil rights movement and barely a generation removed from slavery. In deciding which author to record for this project, I sometimes wondered if Lovecraft was the right choice-- but ultimately decided to record his catalog because 1) his work has had a lasting impact on science fiction and horror literature (in America, at least); 2) he's in the public domain, which means I don't have to pay licensing fees; and 3) I couldn't find a good quality audiobook catalog of his work for free. I want these works to be available for anyone who might want to access them, especially for academic use.

So here it is! The first story Lovecraft ever published: The Alchemist. This is the story of a family curse, and the extreme lengths one man goes to to fulfill it.
