BEHOLD! THE FIRST STORY IN THE CTHULHU MYTHOS!

Ironically, this story doesn't feature Cthulhu-- it does, however, feature a section of seafloor thrown violently to the surface, and upon that section of seafloor a lone traveler discovers ancient obelisks marked with piscatorial images, and even glimpses a... person? beast? thing? that defies description (in truly Lovecraftian fashion). This theme of ancient undersea civilizations that worship eldritch gods will resurface time and again in Lovecraft's work, hence the development of the Mythos that bears his most famous creation's name.

Note that this story deals with themes of suicide.
